Announcement [01 Aug 2005|08:41pm]

First off, a thanks for the patience shown in waiting for this particular announcement. As has always been the policy at Nowish, real life concerns have always superseded the online world (and our 'real life concerns' have consisted of constant doctor visits, twice-weekly pilgrimages to Babies 'R Us and lots of work on Dad's end and much-needed rest on Mom's).

After our original post regarding the next big transition for Apocalypse Nowish, we received a good deal of feedback from the entire cast. Solid, valid points were raised, and we as the mods discussed these ideas with careful consideration. Every voice that was heard was listened to and no suggestion was ignored or discarded out of hand. After a good deal of discussion, changes have been made to the previously announced plans which we believe encompass the necessary accommodations.

As of this writing, there will be three more posts in Nowish which will serve to finish up the current storyline, prior to the beginning of the planned battle.

Once those posts have gone up, the community of Apocalypse Nowish will officially close.

It is our opinion as moderators and creators of the community that Apocalypse Nowish has, in the past fourteen months, taken its initial premise and expanded further, faster and in a grander way than anyone could ever have predicted. With the magnitude of the planned transition, we came to the conclusion that the time had come to embrace change on all fronts, and leave Apocalypse Nowish itself as a testament to the creative power of the writers who drove, energized and revolutionized it.

The story of the remaining canon characters, though, will continue in a new community. This new community, story-wise, will take advantage of the Window of Orlon spell to "restart" history, eliminating the existence of the other "lost" characters who will not be moving on from their memories and histories.

No mention will ever be made, in either community, of the fate of those "lost" characters. Whether they perish in the battle, escape the dimensional transport to Pylea, or whatever, is not a detail that will be touched upon by ourselves or any writers. This loss will be, and will remain, an unsolved mystery in the new community for the foreseeable future.

Apocalypse Nowish, the community, will not be deleted, so that a record remains of the excellent work done here, though the membership will be reduced down to the maintainers.

We as the mods would like one more time to recognize the unique and definite contributions that have been made by everyone who wrote in Apocalypse Nowish. A very special thank you and round of applause is deserved by the true stalwarts who made it through a year, or more, or nearly, giving of their talent and their dedication, and doing it all without a complaint or special accommodations.

To everyone we will be seeing in the new community, we look forward to continuing this unique and amazing journey with you. To everyone who will not be continuing-- most of you we will still be seeing and enjoying your company in other games, and we do hope that this is not the last we will hear of other fine companions with whom who can share the Nowish experience.

Best of luck to you all, and thank you for this amazing time.

If possible..... [01 Jul 2005|07:34am]

[ mood | content ]

It would be great if everyone could close or somewhat end the threads they are currently in by or before the big meeting on Saturday! I think a few of them are close to being done, or ARE done, as it is. If its not possible and you just want to take your character out of a thread and resume talks later? Go for it - whatever works out best for you. If you can't - well, we'll work around it. :)

Thanks to everyone for voting (and if you haven't already, go vote!) for our comm award, and thanks to everyone who can make it to the meeting!

Again, keep up the fantastic writing!!!!

Love, Jo

Time for another meeting! [28 Jun 2005|10:14pm]

[ mood | creative ]

Okay, so there's been some wonderful and amazing character-driven work here in Nowish over the last few months, but as some of you know, the next big battle will soon be upon us. And so, there's lots of important information that needs to get passed around in the Hyperion. That means it's time for another big AIM (or YIM, depending on which one is working better) meeting!

After talking around to a number of players, we're setting the time and date for this Saturday (2nd of July), at 9:00 PM Pacific Time. Hopefully, this should work for most folks, and we promise that we'll try and keep things quick and lively, so that our East Coast (and later) friends won't be up way too late. Jo and I should also open up the chat early so that people can check in with last-minute plot questions or whatever.

So, please reply to this post if you can make the chat, or if you're not available. If you can't make it, we'll work something out.

AGW.... has been extended! [15 Jun 2005|10:59pm]

Due to popular demand *L* and also since there are some people who are either busy or away (who would be needed for the current storyline for Nowish), we are extending AGW until MIDNIGHT, PACIFIC TIME, THURSDAY THE 16TH!

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Anniversary!! [07 Jun 2005|10:28pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Well, folks, they said it wouldn't last, but here we are. The 8th of June will officially mark Apocalypse Nowish's one-year anniversary. We're all veterans enough of the LJ RPG world to know just how many communities get to mark this monumentous occasion, and how rarely with so many original players and with a storyline that we consider to still be strong and interesting.

Hoopla will come soon enough, of course, but what we're all waiting for is the next Anything Goes Week, right? So here's the when of it, and a refresher course on the how it all works.

AGW begins-- 12:00 midnight Eastern, the evening of June 8 (meaning Wednesday night)
AGW ends-- 12:00 midnight Pacific, the evening of June 15 (also Wednesday night)

Just like before, there will be a post marking the beginning, and then another marking the end of the AGW posts. For the duration of that time, anyone who is an active player in Nowish can have any of their other characters (Jossverse or otherwise) joined to the community. There's no restriction on what characters, or on what they can do (subject to the approval of anyone you play with, of course), and the storyline is completely on hold until the end of AGW.

For the duration, Nowish will be rated NC-17, without restriction, but please keep anything graphic under an LJ cut.

Give us a yell if there are characters you'd like joined to the comm!

Have a blast!!

-Eric and Jo.

And now, I get to do something fun-- presenting your choice for the most outstanding thread for May, 2005!!

A round of applause for Fawn and Megs!

(1 Stake | Stake Me)

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. [01 Jun 2005|11:28pm]

[ mood | thoughtful ]

All right, so we've come to a decision regarding how Andi's death will be handled in the storyline.

The posts as currently up will stand, meaning that the character will have expired in the room, suddenly and quietly. We have not gone back on our previous intentions as stated, which were that the character's death would be approached in the manner most beneficial to the storyline as a whole and to the greatest number of writers. It was a very well-written, exceptionally creative email from one of the players, in which such a death was shown as could be handled in an intriguing and fresh way for the game, that primarily influenced our decision to go ahead with this version of the death.

The rules haven't changed. Mod discussion and approval is intended to make sure that storyline ideas are as suitable and positive for the game and the players, something we trust our players understand.

That said and done, let's all get on with the story.

And remember, our anniversary is coming up in just ONE WEEK, which means AGW will go from Midnight, Eastern on the 8th of June to Midnight, Pacific on the 15th of June! We can't wait to see what you all come up with this time around!

You think you'll never have to... [31 May 2005|05:34pm]

But then the time comes, and as a Mod, you have to write a post like this one. And if you think the 'get off your butts and post more' ones are unpleasant for me, that's nothing.

First off, I want to call everyone's attention to the following changes in the community rules, which now read:

Major game/story ideas must be discussed with the mods - this includes making substantial changes physically or mentally to a character, killing a character, etc. Basically, anything that affects the game and story must be discussed and approved. Any major game/story idea that involves another character should be talked over with the person playing that character as well.

This has always been the spirit of the rules here at Nowish, and has been something that with only a few exceptions, has been graciously adhered to by the writers here. Unfortunately, events now necesitate making this rule explicit and concrete.

That said, as far as the story of Apocalypse Nowish is concerned (and therefore, as far as your characters are concerned), the character of Andi Parker is still alive and well, albeit unconscious for the moment. Although attempts were made to resolve this character's fate to the satisfaction of both the mods and the player, circumstances dictate that the character be treated as an NPC until such time as the plotline has been played out in the best interest of all of the writers, the game and the storyline as a whole.

If you have questions or concerns, please email the mods at apocalypse_nowish@dreadmachine.com or find us on AIM at big_pile_o_dust or xDark Wesleyx. Comments to this post have been disabled.
